Bottom Cable

Form Cues

  • Set the cable to the lowest position and stand sideways to the machine with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width

  • Grip the handle with both hands near the low pulley side, bending slightly at the knees and hips to reach down

  • Rotate your torso diagonally upward and across your body, driving the handle from low on one side to high on the opposite side

  • The rotation should come from your core and obliques — your arms stay nearly straight and just transfer the force

  • Keep your feet planted and your lower body stable — allow your hips to rotate naturally but don't let them drive the movement

  • Control the return phase slowly — resist the cable pulling you back down, this eccentric phase is just as important

  • Keep your chest up and spine neutral — don't round your lower back when reaching down to the cable

  • Exhale during the upward chop, inhale as you return to the start position
