Form Cues

  • Position a preacher curl bench so the arm pad faces a low cable pulley.

  • Attach a straight bar or EZ bar to the cable.

  • Sit on the bench with your upper arms resting on the pad, chest against the top of the pad.

  • Grip the bar with an underhand grip, roughly shoulder-width.

  • Start with arms fully extended — cable tension stretches the biceps in the lengthened position.

  • Curl the bar upward toward your shoulders, keeping upper arms pressed into the pad.

  • Squeeze at the top and hold briefly.

  • Lower with full control — the lengthened position is where the real work happens. Don't let the cable snap your arm open.

  • The cable provides continuous tension unlike a barbell preacher curl, which has a dead spot at the top.
