Form Cues

  • Set an incline bench at roughly 30-45 degrees inside the Smith machine.

  • Lie back on the bench and grip the bar with a shoulder-width or slightly narrower grip.

  • Unrack the bar with arms extended above your upper chest.

  • Lower the bar by bending at the elbows, letting the bar travel toward your forehead or just behind your head.

  • The incline puts your arms at an angle that stretches the triceps long head more than a flat skull crusher.

  • Keep your upper arms stationary — only the forearms should move.

  • Extend the arms back to lockout, squeezing the triceps at the top.

  • The Smith machine's fixed path keeps the bar stable, allowing you to focus purely on the elbow extension.
