Form Cues

  • Stand sideways to the cable machine and grab the frame with your inside hand for support, set the pulley to the lowest position

  • Lean your body away from the machine so your working arm hangs at an angle across your body toward the cable, this increases the range of motion and keeps tension on the side delt at the bottom

  • Grasp the cable handle with your outside hand using a neutral or slightly pronated grip

  • Raise your arm out to the side in a wide arc until it reaches shoulder height, leading with the elbow

  • Keep a slight bend in the elbow throughout and avoid shrugging your shoulder up toward your ear

  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the cable back down slowly and under control, do not let the weight stack pull your arm down

  • Keep your torso still and maintain the same lean angle throughout the entire set, do not rotate or straighten up as you raise
